mutual mutilation (1990) Made on request from an artists group who resided in the shown building and by a governmental commission I made this work as a reflection on the context of the exhibition. This exhibition was about investigating the relation between language and art. In the work I hypothetically presume that it might be possible (although on a extreme small scale) that language and reality may interfere.
On an almost subatomic level there may be interchangeability. In this process they mutilate each other mutually forever: language will never be the same after and also reality. The work adapts itself to the surrounding environment of the industrial site by its mimesis of how brand related information is being exposed. But in this case there is no predecessing decoding effort that can be made: for the non-adept it’s meaning stays hidden.
