museum (1993) The municipal museum of the Dutch city Arnhem invited me to make a work especially for the outside of the museum. In contrast with their request I decided to use the back entrance in favor of the proposed front entrance. My concept was based ion the idea that the front of the museum already determines the spectator’s expectations whilst the back exit or entrance a different function and therefore a different architectural meaning transcends.
As a typeface I used for obvious reasons the AvantGarde and reversed the letter U to open up an in-between a word and an image and also to produce a reference to a gate. This last motive is because a work of art always changes when passing the gate to its staging.
